Leading the Way

Since 2018, Cranford Community College, under the leadership of CEO Kevin Prunty, has been a key partner of One World Strong, collaborating on global initiatives such as the One World Marathon, One World Football, and now the Global Youth Leadership Development Program. One World Strong and its key partners have built a strong international presence in education, fostering opportunities that benefit students and communities locally and globally. As part of this commitment, Cranford is collaborating closely with the One World Strong Unbroken Cities initiative, helping young people in Cranford, Ukraine, and beyond develop leadership and other essential skills.

Global School Cohorts

The Global School Cohort Program, a key component of the Global Youth Leadership Development Program, connects small cohorts of upper secondary students from schools in the UK, Ukraine, Poland, and Finland through the Unbroken Cities Network. Supported by One World Strong, the program fosters leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication. Participating students engage in virtual meetings to discuss global challenges, explore leadership-themed topics, and collaborate on projects over a 10-week period. The focus is on helping students practice leadership skills, promote positive social action, and engage in meaningful projects that strengthen international ties. In doing so, they have opportunities to display leadership skills, build confidence, improve their English language skills, and contribute to international harmony.

Pilot Cohort 2024:

The 2024 pilot program ran from January to May 2024, involving students from Lyceum 93, Lviv, and Cranford Community College in the UK. The students worked together for 10 weeks on a project centered around upcycling. In Cranford, students held a workshop to teach younger students how to upcycle and provided them the opportunity to try it for themselves. In Lviv, students encouraged younger peers to transform plain tote bags into creative designs using cut-up clothing. These bags were then sold to raise funds for the Unbroken Rehabilitation Hospital in Lviv. This pilot program allowed students to develop and display leadership skills while promoting social action and community involvement.

2025 Cohort:

In 2025, the school cohort program expanded significantly. Five state schools in Lviv, each with an English language specialism, were paired with a partner school from the UK, Poland, or Finland. Students from these schools meet weekly online to agree on a common theme for their project and explore leadership-related topics. The program will run from January to May 2025, and each participating school has 10-12 students aged 16-17. This year’s focus is on projects centered around environmental issues, culture, and traditions.

In February, the Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, was able to visit the Crompton House School to discuss their cohort's progress. To read more about the school cohort between Crompton House School in the UK and Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium click here

Youth Flim Initative

Launched in 2024, the Young Lviv Film Project, a subprogram of the Global Youth Leadership Development Program, brought together 20 young adults from Lviv and London to collaborate on producing a short film. Over five weeks, participants met online in small groups to brainstorm themes. The final production was around 10 minutes long and was simultaneously screened at events in Lviv and London, with participants, family, and friends attending and connecting via a live link. A panel discussion followed the screenings in both cities, allowing young filmmakers to reflect on their creative process. The program fostered creativity, leadership, and initiative, empowering young people to collaborate across borders through storytelling and film production.

Following the success of this project, participants and organizers look forward to creating more films and continuing to develop their storytelling and leadership skills. See the finished product below!
